To apply for any of our graduate degree programs (MSc or PhD), please ensure that you meet the requirements below:
In addition to the Faculty of Graduate Studies requirements,
the Department requires:
- An admission grade point average of 3.20 or higher (on the University of Calgary four-point system). For M.Sc. admission this is based on the last two years of the undergraduate degree consisting of a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents. For Ph.D. admission (with an M.Sc.), the overall GPA from the M.Sc. will be considered.
- Proficiency in the English language is essential for the pursuit and successful completion of graduate programs at the University of Calgary. Prior to admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies, an applicant whose primary language is not English must fulfill the English language proficiency requirement in one of the following two ways:
- By writing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and obtaining a score of at least 580 (written test) or 105 (Internet-based test). For further information on the TOEFL exam, please view the following web address: http://www.toefl.com
- By writing the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination and obtaining a minimum score of 7.5. Further information can be obtained from the following web address: http://www.ielts.ca/
If all of the above requirements are met, your completed application will be forwarded to potential supervisors to determine if a supervisor is available for your M.Sc. or Ph.D. program. Because of limited space and funding, supervisors are not always able to accept all qualified applicants.
